Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda is a twin-island country in the Americas, lying between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. It consists of two major inhabited islands, Antigua and Barbuda, and a number of smaller islands. The country is nicknamed "Land of 365 Beaches" due to the many beaches surrounding the islands. Its capital and largest city is St. John's. Antigua and Barbuda was first inhabited by the native Arawak and Carib peoples. The islands were later colonized by the British and became a British colony in 1667. Barbuda was annexed to Antigua in 1684. Slavery was abolished in 1834 and the islands became a Crown colony in 1871.
